Scriptural Truths for Hard Times…God is there.

Baby birds

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear…Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?”
(Matthew 6:25-27 NIV)

Are there days when you wonder whether your prayers are reaching Heaven or why God is allowing trouble in your life? I’m having one of those days. I’ve had years where I felt I was being pressured on all sides, crying to God for mercy. I’ve got to be honest…it’s tough. But thank God for the hope he gives us and the truth in his Word. On days like these, when I feel like the trouble is encroaching from every corner of my life, I place all of my hope and trust in him and I remember these truths…I am a child of God. He loves me more than I know. He cares about every detail of my life and he is hearing my prayers. He is here and with me now. Why he allows some troubles, I don’t know. Perhaps they’re life lessons that he thinks I need, just like an earthly parent sometimes allows their children to learn through tough life lessons. Or, maybe he’s planning to do something good with the bad. I won’t know until the end, and until then, I must cling to faith and stand strong in the hope that God provides. Until then, I remember Proverbs 3:5-6 that says, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths” (NKJV).

Like a baby bird waiting for its parent to return with food and comfort, I look eagerly to the sky towards my Heavenly Father, whom I KNOW is there and has my best interest at heart. I trust he is carrying me through these hard times and I lean on scripture that reminds me to trust in him and to give my cares and worries to him. He will work everything out. He truly cares about every detail of our lives..every detail.

If you’re having a hard time, here is some scripture to memorize and lean on. When the worries creep in, push them out and refuse to give them space. Invite trust and faith to replace that space in your brain and heart. God loves you. Do not think about the troubles of tomorrow…God will take you ONE step at a time through each day. God provides his daily bread for us to get through each day. He doesn’t give us enough bread for a week.

“Therefore let those who suffer according to God’s will entrust their souls to a faithful Creator while doing good” (1 Peter 4:19 ESV).

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:6-7 ESV).

“The Lord says, “I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name. When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them. I will reward them with a long life and give them my salvation” (Psalm 91:14-16 NLT).

“The LORD your God, who goes before you, will fight for you, just as you saw Him do for you in Egypt and in the wilderness, where the LORD your Godcarried you, as a man carries his son, all the way by which you traveled until you reached this place” (Deuteronomy 1:30-31 NASB).

As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you; and you will be comforted over Jerusalem” (Isaiah 66:13 NIV).

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11 NIV).

“Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you” (Deuteronomy 31:6 ESV).

“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it” (1 Corinthians 10:13).

“But now thus says the LORDhe who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior” (Isaiah 43:1-3 ESV).
